“Have a Nice Day”

The OLD Philosopher – John M. Miller

I just got off the elevator which took me to our floor. A young man (therefore not a Seabrook resident) said “Have a nice day” when I exited. I thought immediately I would write this OPSE (which stands for OLD Philosopher Short Essay).

It’s nice when anyone says “Have a nice day” or its equivalent in civilized chatter upon meeting or leaving someone. It’s like “How are you?” when we see someone in passing we know. We don’t really want a complete, especially a long, answer, but it’s a nice thing to say anyway.

Trifling pleasantries are a part of life we should never give up. So hang in there. Take care. Take it easy. How’ve ya been? See ya. Keep on keeping on. Illegitimi Non Carborundum. Keep the faith. Don’t taker any wooden nickels. Have a nice day.
